2014 Geological Society of America Student Map Competition

Information and Contacts: The National Cooperative Geologic Program (USGS) will be hosting along with GSA the second annual Best Student Geologic Map Competition at the GSA Annual Meeting in beautiful Vancouver, British Columbia. Students are encouraged to present their research and geologic maps they created to the conference and the competition.  When submitting their poster or paper abstract to the conference, they simply have to check the box indicating that they also want to be submitted to the competition. This is for students only and there are great awards to the top three maps.  To find out more about the competition please go to the GSA map competition website at: http://community.geosociety.org/GSA2014/students/mapcompetition

Earth Science Week, 2014: Earth's Connected Systems

Information from the AGI web site: Since October 1998, the American Geosciences Institute has organized this national and international event to help the public gain a better understanding and appreciation for the Earth Sciences and to encourage stewardship of the Earth. This year's Earth Science Week will celebrate the theme "Earth's Connected Systems."
The American Geological Institute sponsors national contests and offers examples of classroom activities and a planning kit for 2014. Contact AGI, 4220 King St., Alexandria, VA 22302. AGI sponsors national art, photography and essay contests for grades K-8 and for adults.
Also, celebrate Geologic Map Day on October 17!
