Danby Quarry and Cavendish Gorge

Marble, Danby, VT

 

Cut marble blocks await shipment from the underground quarry in Danby, Vermont. Marble is used as dimension stone and in paper and plastic. Danby marble was used for the Jefferson Memorial in Washington, D.C. and the Chiang Kai Shek Memorial in Taiwan.



Potholes at Cavendish Gorge

 

 

Potholes form in streams from the grinding action of stones as they swirl around in eddies.
