Northern Lake Champlain Basin Planning

The Draft Water Quality Management Plan for the Northern Lake Champlain Direct Drainages (aka Basin #5) was approved in October 2009 by the Agency of Natural Resources. The Plan is the result of a multi-year public-private collaboration to protect the high quality surface waters of the basin and to restore those waters of the basin that do not meet the Vermont Water Quality Standards. The Plan describes existing State and federal programs that are presently in place to address identified water quality problems. In addition, the Plan includes strategies to develop or improve upon the collaborative efforts of the Agency with other partners to improve water quality. The strategies within the Basin #5 Plan have been developed over the last five years during discussions with the Agency, community members, other state and federal groups, and non-profit organizations.
The ANR-approved draft Basin #5 Plan does not contain any water management typing recommendations for any Class B waters in the drainage basin. Once an agreed upon process for water management typing (or an alternative to typing) is developed by the Vermont Water Resources Panel, the Plan will be revised accordingly.
