State of Vermont Press Release February 05, 2002 Through an investigation, the Agency discovered that March had illegally burned 140 yards of solid waste from an out-of-state demolition project. Burning this type of material violated several state regulations. The matter came to light as a result of a citizen complaint that was investigated by Environmental Enforcement Officer Tim McNamara. Upon notification, March immediately extinguished the smoldering fire, promptly removed the remaining waste to a certified solid waste facility by a certified hauler and agreed to settle the matter. The settlement was reduced to an assurance of discontinuance and was so ordered by the Environmental Court on January 31. In it, March Construction agreed to pay a $450 civil penalty to the State of Vermont for the violations and to fund a $3,000 supplemental environmental project.
