State of Vermont Press Release November 15, 2012 Through the Agency’s investigation, it was determined that the company violated Vermont’s Acceptable Management Practices (AMPs) for protecting water quality in logging operations and in doing so caused discharges of sediment and logging debris to state waters in violation of State law. These violations occurred at a logging site in St. Johnsbury, Vermont. The violations were documented by a CED Environmental Enforcement Officer and Department of Forests, Parks & Recreation foresters during several site inspections. After the investigations were completed the company was notified of the violations and agreed to settle the matter. The settlement was reduced to an Assurance of Discontinuance, and adopted as an order by the Environmental Court. In it, the company agreed to pay a $5,000.00 penalty, notify the Department of Forests, Parks and Recreation of upcoming logging jobs in Vermont for a 3-year period, and comply with the AMPs. Involved Programs: Department of Forests, Parks and Recreation, Forestry Division |
