State of Vermont Press Release May 04, 2004 Through the Agency's investigation, it was discovered that Vermont Quarries Corporation, in the course of doing business, discharged wastewater into state waters and operated the quarry on a number of Saturdays. These were violations of their wastewater and Act 250 permits. An Administrative Order was filed in January of this year. The matter came to light as a result of a citizen complaint that was investigated by Environmental Enforcement Officer Tim McNamara. After the investigation was completed, Vermont Quarries Corporation was notified of the violations and agreed to settle the matter. The settlement was reduced to an assurance of discontinuance and was so ordered by the Environmental Court on April 22, 2004. In it, Vermont Quarries Corporation agreed to obtain new permits and comply with them. It was also agreed that a civil penalty of $2,000 will be paid to the State of Vermont for the violations and that a $5,500 supplemental environmental project will be funded. Involved Program: Water Quality Division of the Department of Environmental Conservation and the Environmental Board (Act 250)
