State of Vermont Press Release July 13, 2004 Through the Agency's investigation, it was discovered that the Town of Salisbury, in the course of operating its landfill, exceeded its 1,000 ton per year limit of accepted waste, conducted open burning of prohibited materials, failed to provide adequate daily cover for its landfill, failed to submit an annual evaluation, and failed to submit annual and quarterly reports in violation of its certification in effect at the time. The matter came to light as a result of a routine Agency inspection of the landfill and related records. After the investigation was completed, the Town of Salisbury was notified of the violations and agreed to settle the matter. The settlement was reduced to an assurance of discontinuance and was so ordered by the Environmental Court on June 22, 2004. In it, the Town of Salisbury agreed to come into compliance with its landfill certification. It was also agreed that a $10,000 supplemental environmental project will be funded. Involved Program: Waste Management Division of the Department of Environmental Conservation
