State of Vermont Press Release August 29, 2005 Through the Agency's investigation, it was discovered that the Town of Bristol's landfill, in the course of doing business, violated its certification regarding the annual limit on the ratio of waste to alternative daily cover (ADC) that may be accepted. It brought in more ADC (paper sludge and wood ash) than permitted and never requested or received Agency approval to use wood ash as ADC. The Town also failed to apply intermediate cover to one section of the landfill, and stored or disposed of solid waste outside the approved limits of the landfill. These violations came to light during a routine agency inspection. After the investigation was completed, the Town of Bristol was notified of the violations and agreed to settle the matter. The settlement was reduced to an Assurance of Discontinuance and was so ordered by the Environmental Court on August 23, 2005. In it, the Town of Bristol agreed to comply with its certification and applicable laws and rules in the operation of the landfill. It was also agreed that a $5,000 supplemental environmental project will be funded.
