State of Vermont May 14, 2002 Through the Agency's investigation, it was discovered that Sandri et al, in the course of doing business, violated numerous Vermont Hazardous Waste Management Rules. Additionally, at two stations, underground storage tank inspections revealed the failure to conduct adequate tank and piping release detections as well as failures to investigate and report a suspected release. The matters came to light as a result of routine Agency inspections. After the investigation was completed, Sandri et al was notified of the violations and agreed to settle the matter. The settlement was reduced to an assurance of discontinuance and was so ordered by the Environmental Court on May 10, 2002. In it, Sandri et al agreed to design and implement policies to prevent further violations. They agreed to assess leak detection systems at two locations, conduct an environmental assessment at three locations, and perform any necessary corrective action. It was also agreed that a civil penalty of $16,250 will be paid to the State of Vermont for the violations and a $16, 250 supplemental environmental project will be funded.
