State of Vermont January 10, 2002 Through the Agency's investigation, it was discovered that Arrowhead Mountain Snowmobile Club, Inc. constructed a snowmobile trail through a Class II wetland on property located in Milton without a conditional use determination, as required by the Vermont wetland rules. In the course of building the trail, fill and eroded material including uprooted trees and vegetative debris was placed in the wetland. Also, the flow of water in the wetland had been altered by ditching and the installation of a culvert. The matter came to light as a result of a citizen complaint regarding the construction of a snowmobile trail and was investigated by Environmental Enforcement Officer John Klauzenberg. After the investigation was completed Arrowhead Mountain Snowmobile Club, Inc. was notified of the violations and agreed to settle the matter. The settlement was reduced to an assurance of discontinuance and was so ordered by the Environmental Court on January 8, 2002. In it Arrowhead Mountain Snowmobile Club, Inc. agreed to fund a $5,000 supplemental environmental project. The club also hired a qualified environmental consultant to prepare a remediation plan, supervise the work and complete the remediation of the wetland on the property.
