Through the Agency's routine regulatory oversight, including a recent sanitary survey, it was discovered that the East Hardwick Fire District #1 failed to maintain the capacity for continuous chlorine (stand by) disinfection. The East Hardwick Fire District #1 was notified of the violations and agreed to settle the matter.
The settlement was reduced to an Assurance of Discontinuance and was so ordered by the Environmental Court on June 5, 2006. In it, the East Hardwick Fire District #1 agreed to install a continuous (stand-by) chlorine disinfection system by a certain date and correct other deficiencies as identified during the sanitary survey. It was also agreed that a $5,250 supplemental environmental project will be funded.
