Through the Agency's investigation, it was discovered that Northern Power Systems, in the course of doing business, burned material from a former office building including desks, plastic, and treated wood.

The matter came to light as a result of a citizen complaint, which was investigated by Environmental Enforcement Officer Sean McVeigh. After the investigation was completed, Northern Power Systems was notified of the violations and agreed to settle the matter.

The settlement was reduced to an Assurance of Discontinuance and was so ordered by the Environmental Court on October 17, 2006. In it, Northern Power Systems agreed to comply with the Air Pollution Control Regulations and all other applicable environmental laws in the operation of its business. It was also agreed that a $750 supplemental environmental project will be funded.
