State of Vermont Press Release April 09, 2003 Through the Agency's investigation, it was discovered that Many Excavating, Inc., in the course of doing business, caused a stream bank to collapse into the Huntington River. This occurred while this company was draining a pond and resulted in a significant discharge into the river. The matter came to light as a result of a citizen complaint about high turbidity in the Huntington River which was subsequently investigated by Environmental Enforcement Officer Sean McVeigh. After the investigation was completed, Many Excavating, Inc. was notified of the violations and agreed to settle the matter. It also took steps to stabilize the stream bank. The settlement was reduced to an assurance of discontinuance and was so ordered by the Environmental Court on April 4, 2003. In it, Many Excavating, Inc. agreed to pay a civil penalty of $1,250 and fun a $4,000 supplemental environmental project.
