State of Vermont Press Release April 01, 2003 Through the Agency's investigation, it was discovered that Mettowee Valley Waste Disposal Inc. contracted with the town of Mount Tabor to run its transfer station. However, this company made modifications to the site without first obtaining an amendment to the Certification. These modifications were made despite the Agency's Solid Waste Program warnings not to do so. The matter came to light as a result of the Agency's routine oversight. After the investigation was completed, Mettowee Valley Waste Disposal Inc. was notified of the violations and returned the site to its condition prior to the unapproved work. The settlement was reduced to an assurance of discontinuance and was so ordered by the Environmental Court on March 24, 2003. In it, Mettowee Valley Waste Disposal Inc. agreed to pay a a civil penalty of $1,000 to the State of Vermont for the violations and fund a $2,000 supplemental environmental project.
