State of Vermont Press Release September 30, 2003 During a routine agency inspection, it was discovered that J.W. Sandri of Vermont, Inc., failed to obtain the proper permit for a 2,000 gallon underground storage tank (UST) at its car wash. A closure assessment performed last year documented a petroleum release from the UST. At the same time, it was also discovered that a 275 gallon, above-ground storage tank had also released petroleum. J.W. Sandri of Vermont, Inc. was notified of the violations and agreed to settle the matter. The settlement was reduced to an assurance of discontinuance and was so ordered by the Environmental Court on September 4, 2003. In it, J.W. Sandri of Vermont, Inc. agreed to initiate a comprehensive audit and maintenance program to ensure future compliance with the applicable regulations. It was also agreed that a $6,000 supplemental environmental project will be funded. Involved Program: Hazardous Materials, Waste Management Division of the Department of Environmental Conservation
