State of Vermont Press Release October 07, 2005 Through the Agency's investigation, it was discovered that one of Vermont Hauling's trucks, while picking up waste at the Barnet Transfer Station, leaked hydraulic oil. Vermont Hauling failed to take any action and it was only after the leak was discovered by a state inspector 17 days after it occurred, that a consultant was hired who cleaned the site. After the investigation was completed, Vermont Hauling, Inc. was notified of the violations and agreed to settle the matter. The settlement was reduced to an Assurance of Discontinuance and was so ordered by the Environmental Court on October 3, 2005. In it, Vermont Hauling, Inc. agreed to retrain all its Vermont employees in the proper response to a hazardous waste spill/release, including that it be reported to the Agency. It was also agreed that a civil penalty of $6,750.00 will be paid to the State of Vermont for the violations. Involved Program: Hazardous Materials, Waste Management Division of the Department of Environmental Conservation
