Welcome to the
Dam Safety and Hydrology Section

Hyde Dam, Second Branch of the White River in Bethel

The Dam Safety and Hydrology Section manages programs that promote dam safety and the protection of flows in rivers and streams. The dam safety program administers a permit program for construction and alteration of non-hydroelectric dams, conducts dam inspections, educates dam owners and the public about public safety issues and operates and maintains 101 agency-owned dams. The hydrology program leads ANR's regulatory and compliance efforts for hydroelectric projects and water withdrawals, addresses flow and water regulation at non-hydroelectric dams and manages a program to promote the removal of small, unused dams.
