Information:
The program is to offer local colleges (New England - New York), universities and high schools the opportunity to invite a member of the VGS to speak at their institution on timely topics within the broad realm of earth and environmental sciences. Any costs associated with the lecturer's travel, lodging and meals are borne by the VGS. The lecturer for 2009 is Dr. Stephen Wright of the University of Vermont. Stephen's lecture is "Glacial Geology of Northern Vermont: Ice Flow, Water Flow, and Glacial Lake History."

The theme for this meeting is Geologic Controls on River Sysytems in the Northeastern United States. John Field, Ph.D., of Field Geology Services, Farmington, ME is the keynote speaker and there will be addiional oral presentations. The goal of this meeting is to bring together professionals and citizens engaged in river and watershed studies and to highlight the influence of surficial and bedrock geology on the present-day form, processes, condition, and sensitivity of our fluvial systems.
