Welcome to the
Waste Management & Prevention Division

The Waste Management Division oversees the use, treatment and handling of hazardous and solid wastes. The Division performs emergency response for hazardous materials spills, issues permits for federal and state programs regulating hazardous wastes, solid wastes, and underground storage tanks, and manages cleanup at hazardous sites under state and federal authorities, including the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) and the Comprehensive Environmental Response Compensation and Liability Act (CERCLA, also known as Superfund).
If you cannot find what you are looking for through the WM-ID, appointments to review division files can be made by calling Cheryl Hamilton at (802) 522-5949. The Division receives many requests for information and does require an appointment. These are generally scheduled for 9am or 1pm and must be completed by 4pm.

DRAFT Vermont Materials Management Plan: Moving from Solid Waste towards Sustainable Management - December 19, 2013 - This proposed Materials Management Plan (MMP) amends the previous solid waste management plan which was readopted in 2006. The DRAFT MMP includes significant changes to the structure and layout of the previous plan. This DRAFT MMP is based on five material specific chapters and a chapter addressing general planning needs. Each chapter contains tools of action, state goals, and performance standards.
