Hazardous Waste Management Program

News and Updates

Winter/Spring 2013 edition:

It has come to our attention that often the Waste Management and Prevention Division (WMPD), does not receive final copies of the manifest from the end facility.  Ultimately, it is the generator's responsibility to ensure WMPD receives these copies.  One way to verify our reciept is to check the Waste Management Interactive Database (WMID)

Since it is winter, are you properly burning used oil? Find out here:  Burning Used Oil Fuel Environmental Fact Sheet

Regulations:

Vermont Hazardous Waste Management Regulations (VHWMR) (effective March 15, 2013)

Recent changes to the VHWMR include adoption of new federal RCRA regulations required for Vermont’s hazardous waste program to maintain its EPA-authorized status; adoption of the federal Academic Labs rule to replace the expired University Labs XL rule (applicable to UVM); addition of new standards for facilities that aggregate and temporarily store waste fuels received from off-site for subsequent reclamation/reuse; substitution of current small quantity generator emergency response procedures with equally protective but simpler standards; and clarification that used oil fuel meeting quality specifications is subject to limited regulation under the Subchapter 8 used oil management standards.
