Hazardous Waste Management Program (RCRA)

The Vermont Hazardous Waste Management Program provides oversight for the generation, transportation, storage, treatment and disposal of hazardous wastes, used oils, and universal hazardous wastes. The program implements and maintains the Vermont Hazardous Waste Management Regulations (VHWMR). The program conducts inspections to evaluate compliance with the regulations; tracks hazardous waste manifests (shipping papers) to ensure all hazardous wastes are delivered to appropriate facilities; issues permits to facilities that engage in long-term or commercial storage and facilities that treat or dispose of hazardous waste; responds to citizens complaints regarding the mis-management of hazardous waste; provides compliance assistance to the regulated community; and tracks hazardous waste data. Program staff are located in DEC’s main office in Waterbury.
