Waste Transporter Permitting
Summary Description of Permit
The Agency of Natural Resources is now the only agency that issues waste
transportation permits for hauling hazardous, solid, and residual wastes
to or from any location in Vermont. The permits have a duration of five
years. All permits are required to be renewed annually by June 30th.
The Department of Motor Vehicles is no longer involved in the issuing
of permits.
Criteria for Jurisdiction
Commercial haulers are required to obtain and maintain a waste transportation
permit. A commercial hauler is defined as (a) any person that transports
regulated quantities of hazardous waste; and (b) any person that transports
solid and residual waste for compensation using a vehicle having a rated
capacity of more than one ton.

Transporter Annual Report* - Any hazardous waste transporter permitted
by the Vermont Agency of Natural Resources in calendar year 2012 must
complete the Hazardous Waste Annual Report for transporters by April 15, 2013. All currently permitted hazardous waste transporters will receive a post card reminder that instructs them to download the forms from this webpage.
